Three former Furman University golfers are in the field of the U.S. Women's Open Championship, which begins today in North Carolina.

Brandi Jackson and Sherri Turner of Greenville and Sarah Lynn Sargent, who is from St. Charles, Ill., will tee off at the par-71, 6,644-yard Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club in Southern Pines.

Jackson, who grew up in Belton, qualified for the U.S. Women's Open at the Village Links of Glen Ellyn in Illinois, and Sargent earned exempt status for the 2007 LPGA season when she tied for 10th at the LPGA's final qualifying tournament.

Turner, a Greenville native who joined the LPGA Tour in 1984, had her best performance of 2006 at Florida's Natural Charity Championship hosted by Nancy Lopez. Turner tied her career low when she shot 63 in the third round and finished in a tie for eighth in the tournament.
