Furman Golf Set For NCAA East Regional

May 6, 2008

Greenville, S.C. - The Furman women's golf team will begin its quest for a berth in the NCAA Championship when it opens play in the NCAA East Regional Thursday at the par-72 University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga.

The Paladins will play a practice round Wednesday morning before teeing off from No. 10 at 8:10 a.m. on Thursday with South Carolina and Louisville in the tournament's first round. Furman will tee-off from No. 1 at 12:30 p.m. Friday with final round play set for Saturday.

Furman, making its 16th consecutive NCAA Regional appearance, is seeded 12th in the 21-team field. The top eight teams and top three individuals not on the top eight teams advance to the NCAA Championship set for May 20-23, at the University of New Mexico.

The Paladins have appeared in the NCAA finals 15 times with the last trip coming in 2005 after Furman placed third at the NCAA East Regional in Gainesville, Fla. Last season, Furman finished 11th at the NCAA East Regional in Baton Rouge, La.

All-SoCon performer Blair Lamb will be making her third NCAA Regional appearance for Furman while sophomores Corrine Carr and Ashley Baker join the postseason roster for the second time. Stefanie Kenoyer helped Furman claim the Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Regional by becoming just the second freshman in league history to grab individual medalist honors. Fellow freshman Jaclyn Hilea took a share of fifth place in her first SoCon Championship.

Live scoring for all three NCAA Division I women's golf regionals will be available at www.golfstatresults.com.
