Furman Fires Second Round 307, Holds Share Of Fifth At NCAA East Regional

Athens, Ga. -- Furman (292-307=599) fired a second round 307 to hold a share of fifth place and remain in contention for a bid to the NCAA Championship on Friday afternoon at the NCAA East Regional at the par-72 University of Georgia Golf Course.

Blair Lamb (76-74=150) led the Paladins on Friday with a two-over-par 74. The Flat Rock, N.C., native started at three-over through three holes, but played the back nine at two-under-par to move into a tie for 18th place.

Corrine Carr (69-76=145), in fourth place after Thursday's opening round, carded and four-over 76 to hold a share of seventh. The sophomore used a birdie at the par-3 No. 16 to finish the final three holes at one-under and grab a top 10 spot. She trails tournament leader Benedicte Toumpsin (68-70=138) of South Carolina by seven strokes and the second place duo of Duke's Amanda Blumenherst and Louisville's Sara-Maude Juneau by four strokes entering Saturday.

Freshmen Stefanie Kenoyer (75-78-153) and Jackie Hilea (72-79=151) shot 78 and 79, respectively, to contribute to the Paladins second round total.

Florida (290-295=585) notched the day's best score at seven-over 295 to take first place away from first round leader Duke (285-303=588). The Blue Devils dropped to second place only three shots back of the Gators. South Carolina (291-303=594) is in third with Auburn (296-302=598) fourth and Georgia (299-300=599) tied with Furman for fifth. Wake Forest (298-305=603) and New Mexico (304-301=605) round out the top eight.

No. 12 seed Furman, making its 16th consecutive NCAA Regional appearance, will begin final round play with a seven-stroke edge on ninth place Virginia. The top eight teams and top two individuals not on the top eight teams advance to the NCAA Championship set for May 20-23, at the University of New Mexico.

Final round action is set for Saturday with the Paladins scheduled to tee-off of No. 10 with Auburn and Georgia beginning at 8:10 a.m.
