The Furman cheerleaders are hosting their own cheer camp at Furman this summer! The camp will be June 26th - 28th. A half-day camp will be offered for cheerleaders who are entering kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades; a full-day camp will be offered for cheerleaders from fourth grade on up. Cheerleaders will be grouped according to age and skill level. Lunch in Furman's newly renovated dining hall will be provided for cheerleaders attending the full-day camp.
The camps focus on skill development. For three days, participants will work on cheers, jumps, stunts, dances, tumbling and crowd interaction. The camps will conclude with a performance allowing the cheerleaders to show off their new skills to parents, relatives and friends!
Safety is the #1 priority at the Furman Cheer Camp. All practice session will occur indoors in the air conditioned space of Furman Alley gym; the cheer camp will not be sharing space with any other programs. All cheerleading skills will learned, practiced, perfected and preformed on a 60' x 40' competition mat. For the half-day camp there will be at least one instructor for every six cheerleaders; for the full-day camp the instructor-student ratio is eight-to-one! Each participant will get the individual attention she needs to become a more effective cheerleader.
The camp director is Jennifer Johnson, 4-year Varsity Furman cheerleader with 18 years or experience in coaching and directing cheerleading and gymnastics programs at all levels. The camp will be staffed by current Varsity Furman cheerleaders.
